Otley Christmas Tree Festival 2019

Charities & Community groups represented at the 2019 festival

The following Charities & Community groups are represented at the 2019 Otley Christmas Tree Festival:

  1. Pink Events - established over 10 years ago, a small charity consisting of 6 volunteer trustees most of whom are family members who raise money mainly for the Leeds Breast Care Unit at St James Hospital and Cancer Research UK
  2. Behind Closed Doors - Providing support to people in Leeds whose lives have been affected by domestic violence and abuse
  3. Otley Maker Space – workshop near Otley Courthouse equipped with sewing machines, 3D printers, power tools, a lathe and a laser cutter etc where people get together to make stuff
  4. Yorkshire Animal Shelter - small rescue and rehoming charity based in the North of Leeds, run entirely by volunteers and relying solely on public donations to continue our work
  5. Aireborough Supported Activities Scheme - provides both weekend residential breaks and play schemes for children aged between 5 and 19 years of age who have additional needs since 1988
  6. Otley Walking Festival - supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Nine day festival of various guided walks around Otley and Wharfedale held annually in June/July
  7. Otley Welcomes - a local community initiative started by people in Otley concerned about the rise in racism, xenophobia and hate crime
  8. "Hug on a Tray" - provide free drinks and snacks to all the patients, including outpatients, and visitors to haematology, Bexley Wing, St James
  9. Inner Wheel Club of Aireborough - an all female organization, to promote true friendship, to encourage the ideals of personal service, to foster International understanding
  10. Otley Town Mayor's Charities - during his one year term the Otley Town Mayor, Cllr. Peter Jackson has nominated his chosen charities as Otley Leg Club, Otley Branch of the Royal British Legion and the purchase of a 17-seater mini bus that will enable our primary schools to continue taking their pupils on visits of interest
  11. Friends of Chevin Forest Park - a group of volunteers who care about Chevin Forest Park (known locally as The Chevin) and work in partnership with Leeds City Council's Parks & Countryside service, which owns and manages the land
  12. Joanna Project - The Bridge Church - Joanna, Leeds charity works with vulnerable women (and their children) who for various reasons, have been driven or forced into being involved in prostitution
  13. Royal British Legion Otley Branch - provides welfare to the whole Armed Forces family, serving, ex-service and their dependants, custodian of Remembrance and promoter of the national Poppy Appeal
  14. Otley Parish Church Local to Global Group – serving Caring For Life and Kisigi Hospital, Uganda
  15. Otley Action for Older People - community organisation run by and for the older population of Otley and surrounding districts
  16. Otley Food Bank - a partnership between 'Churches Together in Otley' and the wider community. We help people in crisis situations from Otley and surrounding areas such as Pool, Farnley, Menston and Guiseley
  17. Otley Knitters & Chrocheters - social knitting group supporting charities Stitchlinks and Knit for Peace
  18. All Saints Parish Church - prayer tree. Please feel free to write your personal thoughts and place them on this most special tree, no donation necessary
  19. Otley Carnival - held on the 3rd Saturday in June, a fun day out for all, especially for children, and to raise money for local charities
  20. Martin House Children's Hospice - supporting life limited children and their families opened by the Duchess of Kent in 1987 near Boston Spa
  21. PDSA Charity Shop - founded in 1917, the UK's leading veterinary charity. Operating through a UK-wide network of 48 Pet Hospitals and 380 Pet Practices PDSA provides free veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of people in need and promotes responsible pet ownership
  22. St Gemma's Hospice – Leeds based charity providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting illnesses.Offers care to patients and their carers in the hospice's 32 bed In-Patient Unit. Shop in New Inn Court
  23. British Heart Foundation Otley - the BHF's vision is a world without heart and circulatory diseases. We fund research to keep hearts beating and blood flowing. Shop in Kirkgate/Market Place

  24. Rotary Club of Otley Chevin – evening meetings at Chevin Country Park Hotel
  25. Wildlife Friendly Otley - a new community group working hard with others to make Otley a 'wildlife friendly town'

  26. Hearing Dogs For Deaf People – relies on volunteers to create life changing hearing dogs that provide so much comfort, support and independence to deaf people
  27. Otley Parish Church Beer Festival - initially formed in 1997 to raise funds for the church window restoration. Since 2002 has raised £98,500 for the Parish Church and for local charities
  28. Hang On To A Dream - Otley based charity providing a last holiday, trip or activity for seriously ill and terminally ill children
  29. Macmillan Cancer Support - the nurses helping you through treatment, the volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things, the fundraisers who make it all possible, the community supporting you online, any time
  30. Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group Leeds & Surrounding Area – formed 2015 to provide a welcoming, supportive and informative environment for those affected by pulmonary fibrosis, meets last Thursday of alternate months at Stanningley RLFC, Leeds.
  31. Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice - provides specialist palliative care service; improving the quality of life for those living with, or affected by, a serious illness
  32. Otley Museum - a comprehensive collection of documents and photographs tells the story of this Wharfedale community from prehistoric times to the 20th century, located at Otley Cycle Club
  33. Hope Pastures Horse and Donkey Sanctuary - rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes horses, ponies and donkeys and also provides the opportunity for people to meet the animals and learn about them and how to look after them
  34. Cancer Research - funds scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer sooner and provides cancer information to the public. Shop on Kirkgate

  36. Otley Womens Forum - meets alternate Thursdays at Methodist Church Hall, Walkergate. This year supporting Behind Closed Doors
  37. Oxfam - has a worldwide reputation for excellence in the delivery of aid and development and working to overcome poverty and suffering. Boroughgate shop
  38. Otley In Bloom - working voluntarily in Otley since 2001 to improve the public green spaces and floral displays around the town
  39. Marie Curie Helper Service – whether dementia, cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure, Parkinson's disease or any other illness, here for you and your family to help you cope after a terminal diagnosis
  40. Otley Lions - provides assistance to individuals in need throughout our area and local, national and international charities. Bookshop on Mercury Row
  41. Yorkshire Cancer Research - helps people in and around Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with cancer
  42. Otley Women's Institute - part of the largest voluntary women's organization in the UK, meets every second Wednesday of the month at Cross Green Community Centre
  43. Otley & Aireborough Guide Dogs – nationally responsible for around 8,000 guide dogs
