Otley Christmas Tree Festival 2014

Charities & Community groups represented at the 2017 festival

The following Charities & Community groups are represented at the 2017 Otley Christmas Tree Festival:

  1. Pink Events - established 10 years ago. Donated 63,428 to Cancer Research UK and 90,094 (in money and equipment) to the Breast Care Unit at St. James' Hospital, Leeds via events such as a fashion show, wine tasting, coffee mornings, ladies lunches, shopping evenings, quiz nights and a Grand Charity Ball.
  2. Otley Knitting Groups social knitting group based at the Courthouse, Woolpack and Parish Church
  3. Otley All Saints Bell Repair Fund - raising funds for the Otley Parish bells refurbishment
  4. Healing Little Hearts - sends specialist medical teams from the UK to Western India to perform life saving heart operations on babies and children
  5. Otley Walking Festival supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Nine day festival of various guided walks around Otley and Wharfedale held annually in June/July
  6. Chevin Socialites provide free drinks and snacks to all the patients, including outpatients, and visitors to haematology, Bexley Wing, St James
  7. All Saints Parish Church Local to Global Group - supports Joanna, in Leeds and Sahaara in Mumbai, India. Both charities work with vulnerable women (and their children) who for various reasons, have been driven or forced into being involved in prostitution
  8. Otley In Bloom - working voluntarily in Otley since 2001 to improve the public green spaces and floral displays around the town
  9. Westgate Primary School: BASIK (Build A School In Kenya) continuing project to raising money for BASIK to part fund the construction of a school in Kenya
  10. Otley & Distict Riding For the Disabled Association - established 1987, providing disabled people with the opportunity to ride to benefit their health and well being
  11. Askwith with Weston W.I. part of the largest voluntary women's organization in the UK, meet at Askwith Village Hall on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7.30. Visitors and new members always welcome
  12. Otley Carnival - held on the 3rd Saturday in June, a fun day out for all, especially for children, and to raise money for local charities
  13. AWARE - Airedale & Wharfedale Autism Resource a support group for families affected by autism
  14. Otley Parish Scouts - associated with All Saints Parish Church, based at Burras Lane scout hut
  15. Otley Lions Club - provides assistance to individuals in need throughout our area and local, national and international charities. Bookshop on Mercury Row
  16. Wheatfields Hospice - provides specialist palliative care service; improving the quality of life for those living with, or affected by, a serious illness
  17. Otley Women's Forum - meets alternate Thursdays at Methodist Church Hall, Walkergate. This year supporting Horticap
  18. Hang on To A Dream - Otley based charity providing a last holiday, trip or activity for seriously ill and terminally ill children
  19. Otley Food Bank - a partnership between 'Churches Together in Otley' and the wider community. We help people in crisis situations from Otley and surrounding areas such as Pool, Farnley, Menston and Guiseley
  20. Yorkshire Children's Hospitals Christmas Gift Appeal collects and delivers gifts for babies, children and teenagers having to spend their Christmas in hospitals and hospices
  21. Mothers of Otley (M.O.O.) - provides services to children under five and their families, with a focus on the most disadvantaged; to help narrow the gap, and support all children to reach their potential. Provides a range of services, advice and information either on an individual basis or through groups
  22. All Saints Parish Church - prayer tree. Please feel free to write your personal thoughts and place them on this most special tree, no donation necessary
  23. Otley Women's Institute part of the largest voluntary women's organization in the UK, meets every second Wednesday of the month at Cross Green Community Centre
  24. Otley & District Talking Newspaper - records local weekly newspapers onto tapes and CDs for blind and partially sighted people. 125 readers
  25. Otley Action for Older People - community organisation run by and for the older population of Otley and surrounding districts
  26. Feed The Minds - Otley Bridge Church - helps marginalised people transform their lives through education. They do this through community-led projects in the Global South
  27. St Gemma's Hospice - providing specialist medical and nursing care for people with life threatening illnesses, along with support for their families, since 1978. Shop on Newmarket
  28. Royal British Legion - provides welfare to the whole Armed Forces family, serving, ex-service and their dependants, custodian of Remembrance and promoter of the national Poppy Appeal
  29. Parkinsons UK, Leeds - working for 40 years to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by the tremor, rigidity and slowness caused by Parkinson's (currently 127,000 people in the UK)
  30. Oxfam - has a worldwide reputation for excellence in the delivery of aid and development and working to overcome poverty and suffering. Boroughgate shop
  31. Macmillan Cancer Support - "are the nurses helping you through treatment, the volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things, the fundraisers who make it all possible, the community supporting you online, any time"
  32. Rotary Club of Otley Chevin - 1.2 million members worldwide support education, job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation and strive to eradicate polio. Evening meetings at Chevin Country Park hotel
  33. Otley Parish Church Beer Festival - initially formed in 1997 to raise funds for the church window restoration. Since 2002 has raised 77,700 for the Parish Church and for local charities
  34. Chevin Handbell Ringers - local group promoting hand bell ringing for all
  35. Martin House Children's Hospice - supporting life limited children and their families opened by the Duchess of Kent in 1987 near Boston Spa
  36. Yorkshire Cancer Research - helps people in and around Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with cancer
  37. Otley Rotary Club supporting domestic violence charity Behind Closed Doors. Lunchtime meetings at Westbourne House
  38. Leeds Chernobyl Children's Project - supports children, families and young people in Belarus, the country worst affected by the 1986 nuclear disaster via recuperative holidays to the UK and purchase urgently needed medicines for the Children's Cancer Hospital in Minsk
  39. Town Mayors Charity this years Town Mayor, Ian Jackson is supporting RSPCC
  40. Friends of Otley Lido Community Interest Company campaign to re-instate the outdoor swimming pool facilities at Wharfemeadows Park
